Norwegian Ayesha Wolasmal is among those trying to leave Afghanistan after the Taliban took over Kabul. “It’s completely crazy here now,” she wrote from the airport.
“Outside the military airport, there are around a thousand Afghans, including women and children, who are desperately trying to get in through the gate and then leave the country,” Wolasmal wrote to the newspaper VG.
In addition, there are several hundred people in the civilian part of the airport. Wolasmal believes the Americans must secure the airport so that thousands of Afghans can get out of the country.
“Risk being stuck”
“I am very worried about friends and acquaintances who risk being stuck (here) when the Taliban come to power,” Wolasmal said.
She has a strong connection to the country where she has worked for several years and where her parents come from.
She says many of those trying to flee have played a key role in reconstruction in the 20 years since the Taliban last ruled the country.
