Family violence is one of the darker sides of Christmas. Now, both the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Children and Families are asking people to watch out for signs of violence.
“We are very worried about those who are now going on uncertain holidays in the face of violent partners. We, therefore, have a clear call for people to watch out,” Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl (SP) told the newspaper VG.
Enger and Minister for Children and Families Kjersti Toppe (SP) ask Norwegians to watch out for signs of violence.
“We can adopt a lot of politics, and there are good tools out there that can help, but in the end, it is important that everyone cares about those around them,” Toppe said.
Statistics
Figures from the National Institute of Public Health (FHI) show that 1 in 20 children and young people grow up in violent conditions, while one in five experience less serious physical violence.
Just over 9% of women and just under 2% of men state that they have been exposed to serious physical violence from a partner, according to the National Knowledge Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress (NKVTS).
