The County Governor in Oslo and Viken will investigate allegations of reprehensible conduct in Jehovah’s Witnesses. The investigation could result in a loss of state subsidies for the denomination.

“We will wait with the processing of claims for state subsidies until our investigations are completed,” an email from the County Governor to Jehovah’s Witnesses dated September 15 stated, according to the newspaper Vårt Land.

The Ministry of Children and Family Affairs has asked the County Governor to open an investigation into the case.

The investigation follows allegations of reprehensible conduct made by former members of the community, including claims that members of Jehovah’s Witnesses risk being excluded from the community if they vote in political elections.

“We can confirm that we have received an inquiry from the County Governor in Oslo and Viken, and we will respond on time,” communications manager Jørgen Pedersen of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Scandinavia stated.
