On Tuesday, around 100 activists from Extinction Rebellion blocked the intersection of Frederiks gate and Karl Johans gate close to the Palace in Oslo.
“Multiple demonstrators have chained themselves together with plastic pipes at the intersection. There is a good dialogue and atmosphere at the site,” the Oslo Police District wrote on Twitter.
The police have set up roadblocks to secure the 100 activists and redirect traffic.
“We are protesting against the Norwegian government’s decision to drill for more oil. It exacerbates an already escalating climate crisis,” the group’s spokesperson Arvid Gudmundsson told the newspaper Avisa Oslo.

On Monday, the group staged a protest at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, at Majorstukrysset, and at Ankerbrua.
The group announced that it would carry out more demonstrations in Oslo in the coming days.

Great work – it’s downright negligent how little our Governments are doing in the face of such clear information from our weather stations.
It’s a shame people have to take time off work and give up their freedoms because their Governments are focusing on short term politics rather than the medium term wellbeing of their people.
