An apartment block in the Arna district in Bergen has almost burned down, but no residents have been reported missing.

The report about the fire in Hardangervegen was received at 2:17 AM.

“No people are missing,” Vest 110 Central announced at 3:15 AM.

According to the newspaper Bergensavisen, the building contains over 20 municipal apartments. The newspaper’s pictures showed huge flames coming out of large parts of the four-story building.

Per Magnus Vabø, operations manager in the police, informed BA that 24 people were evacuated.

“No people are missing,” he added.

At 7:45 AM, the fire service announced that they would move on to post-extinguishing work, according to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). The fire brigade decided not to declare that they have control of the fire due to high temperatures and some wind. The work will take place throughout the day.

No one injured

None of the residents were injured, and there was no need for intervention from any of the ambulances sent to the site.

One of the residents, Kays Kadhim, told Bergensavisen that the alarm did not go off in the building until the fire spread.

“I was asleep when a neighbor came to the door to ask about something. Therefore, I was fortunately awake when I became aware of smoke ten minutes later,” he said.

The fire service’s operations manager Frode Lie told the newspaper Bergens Tidende that the building is to be regarded as destroyed.

Fire service chief: It’s a mystery

Fire service chief Leif Linde, who has worked in the fire service for 40 years, was also present on Saturday night.

“I have not seen something like this before,” he told BT.

The fire chief described the incident as a mystery. The fire brigade moved out with crews from four stations.
