The Armed Forces plan to use the EpiShuttle patient transport isolator to transport patients with diseases with a high risk of infection.

Epishuttle is a transport isolator that aims to protect the environment from an infected patient or a vulnerable patient from a contaminated environment. Along the way, healthcare professionals can perform critical care without risking infection.

On Thursday, the Air Evacuation Group in the Armed Forces used the isolator in an exercise onboard a Hercules C-130J aircraft. Four “patients” with high-risk infective diseases were isolated.

The isolator was developed in Norway. The idea for Epishuttle was conceived after an Ebola-infected patient was transported back to Norway in 2014.

In the wake of the corona pandemic, the demand for the infection isolator has increased sharply.
