Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (AP) says that the reports that Russia is withdrawing forces from the areas that border Ukraine must be analyzed further.

“In the morning, we received messages that there is a withdrawal of forces, that military exercises in Crimea have ended. We need to analyze this more to understand the intention behind it,” Støre said.

He commented on the situation in Ukraine in the Norwegian parliament (Storting) on Wednesday, after receiving questions from Erna Solberg (H).

Støre pointed out that Russian military exercises are still taking place in Belarus, close to the border with Ukraine.

“And it has also been the case before, that at the end of exercises there has been military aggression. So the capacity to carry out military attacks on Ukraine is present. Whether the will is there… that is an open question,” Støre noted.
