Qatari authorities have published a press release explaining that the two Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) journalists were arrested because they were filming in a private area without permission.

The press release states that the NRK journalists were fully aware of it before they entered the area.

Journalists Halvor Ekeland and Lokman Ghorbani were in Qatar to report on the upcoming football World Cup. They were arrested and put in solitary confinement for over 30 hours before being released.

On Wednesday, they were back on Norwegian soil.
