A 21-year-old man has been convicted in an assault case in Rogaland. The man has been sentenced in Sør-Rogaland District Court to one year and six months in prison for abusing one of the underage players he coached.

The penalty is three times as high as what the prosecution asked for, the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

In addition, in the verdict, district court judge Bjørn Enoksen Ristesund wrote that the court was considering whether the sentence should have been even higher.

Several of the girls on the sports team were gathered at the home of one of the girls the night when the abuse took place. The accused was also there.

The man ended up abusing one of the girls – who was under the age of 16 – in what the court describes as an assault bordering on so-called “sleep rape.”

In addition to the prison sentence, the 21-year-old has been sentenced to pay NOK 70,000 in reparation to the aggrieved.

Defendant’s defense counsel, lawyer Stian Kristensen, told the newspaper Aftenbladet that the verdict would be appealed.
