A man in his 30s has been convicted in Stavanger District Court for having abused his former cohabitant, who was unable to oppose the act at the time.

Among other things, due to the long case processing time, the man is sentenced to one year and nine months in prison, out of which one year is conditional, newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

In addition, he must pay his former cohabitant NOK 75,000 in restitution.

During the rape on December 1, 2017, the cohabitant was having an epileptic seizure. The man later confessed to his cohabitant, the police on the spot and during questioning.

Still, he later changed his explanation and said that the act was an accident while trying to stop the epileptic seizure. He also used this explanation in court.

According to his lawyer, the man is considering appealing the verdict.
