A total of 14 Russian-owned luxury boats in Dutch shipyards will not be allowed to leave the country, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra announced on Wednesday.

Twelve of the yachts are being built at the yards, several of which are superyachts over 35 meters long, and two were in port for maintenance, the Dutch state broadcaster NOS writes.

Customs will not allow boats to leave the Netherlands due to the strict sanctions imposed on Russia by a number of Western countries.

In a letter to the Dutch parliament, Hoekstra wrote that EUR 516 million – NOK 4.92 billion – in Russian assets had been frozen in the country, and NOK 1.48 billion in transactions had been blocked in the Netherlands.
