Two people were stabbed at a NAV office in Bergen on Monday morning. They were transported to the hospital.

The police received a report at 10:02 AM, and were at the scene of the incident, NAV Årstad, after a short time. One perpetrator – a man in his 30s -was arrested shortly after the police arrived at the scene, the Western Police District stated in a press release.

The two people who were stabbed have been taken to Haukeland University Hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown. They are both employees of the abovementioned NAV office.

Task leader Synnøve Malkenes in the Western Police District told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) that the stabbing incident took place on the second or third floor of the NAV building.

Multiple witnesses

“There must have been many witnesses to the incident,” Malkenes told NRK.

Malkenes told the newspaper Bergensavisen the police have carried out a rough search of the building without finding any more injured people.

“Now we are carrying out a more detailed search of the building, which is blocked off. Based on the information we have now, two people have been stabbed, and one perpetrator has been arrested,” Malkenes said.

The perpetrator is talking to the police.

“We do not know if this was an attack aimed at specific people or if it was random. We know that other employees were present. We have control over everyone who was inside the building at the time it happened. They are collected and are being taken care of by health services on site,” Malkenes said.

At 11:15 AM, the suspected perpetrator was taken out of the building and into a police car. The police told the newspaper Bergensavisen that the arrest was not dramatic.
