The deadline for changing tires is postponed to May 1 due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
– “We encourage people to replace the studded tires as soon as possible, but at the same time see that there are practical challenges such as quarantine and workshops and tire hotels that are closed or have reduced capacity,” says Ingrid Heggebø Lutnæs in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
The Roads Administration therefore gives exemptions from the normal stud tire deadlines until the end of April, despite the environmental costs. This applies to both southern and northern Norway, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration reports in a press release.
– “It is unfortunate to have vehicles with studded tires on the roads longer than necessary. The combination of studded tires, dry roads, warm weather and good driving speed gives a lot of gliding dust,” says Lutnæs.
