It is reasonable to assume that the omicron variant could lead to the pandemic in Europe coming to an end, the WHO’s Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, said.

Kluge stated that the corona pandemic entered a new phase after omicron became the dominant variant.

He says that 60% of the population could be infected by March.

“It is plausible that the region is now moving towards the final phase of the pandemic,” he told AFP. However, he still calls for caution due to the virus’s ability to mutate.
