More people are using the Fritt Behandlingsvalg scheme, according to figures from the first four months of the year. This is an increase of 1,500 patients compared to the same period last year.

The scheme was introduced in the autumn of 2015. Patients can choose approved private health service providers.

An overview from the Directorate of Health shows that almost 6,000 patients used the scheme during the first four months of this year.

The largest group is somatic patients (physically ill). For habilitation and intoxication patients, there has been a decline, and in particular, fewer patients from the group of mentally ill children and adolescents have been seen. Here, the reduction was 63 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The increase for Fritt Behandlingsvalg was steady until April, but flattened out when the corona eruption hit the country. Most patients (70 per cent) were resident in the Southeastern Health region, which is probably related to the fact that most private providers are located in this region.
