The Decision Forum for New Methods (Nye Metoder) has approved the use of new drugs for melanoma.
Patients with stage III melanoma can thus receive treatment with the combination of the drugs Tafinlar and Mekinist covered by the public. This is a preventative supplemental treatment that is performed after surgery.
The Decision Forum considered a total of nine new methods in its meeting on Monday. In addition to the cancer treatment, medicines for HIV, liver cancer and leukemia were also approved by the Decision Forum.
The Decision Forum has also approved prehospital CT for early diagnosis and treatment of suspected stroke and serious head injuries. It consists of a specialised mobile unit for use in an ambulance or helicopter, equipped with CT scans, writes Dagens Medisin. The method enables the initiation of blood clot dissolving treatment before the patient is transported to hospital.
