The meteorologists have issued a torrential rain warning and a lightning and thunderstorm warning for Western Norway on Sunday.

“Sunday afternoon and evening heavy rain showers are expected in Møre og Romsdal, Sogn og Fjordane, and the northern part of Hordaland. There will be large local variations in the intensity of the rain, and the weather could change quickly,” the Meteorological Institute wrote in the forecast that applies from noon to 7 PM.

“The situation can get worse. In the worst case, it could lead to landslides in some places,” state meteorologist Lars Andreas Selberg at Vervarslinga in Western Norway told newspaper Bergens Tidende.

The reason for the danger warning, which is at the yellow level, is the heat and, at the same time, cold air higher in the atmosphere throughout Southern Norway.

“This is the recipe for heavy rain showers, lightning, and thunder,” he said.

Heavy rain showers are expected in particular from Nordhordland in the south to Kristiansund in the north.
