The Norwegian Automobile Federation (Norges Automobil-Forbund, NAF) encourages everyone who is going on autumn holidays in the mountains to change to winter tires.

In the next few weeks, many people will make the trip to the mountains as part of the autumn holidays, so it is important to prepare the car and make it winter-ready.

“If you’re going to the mountains, it is likely that there will be some snow. Then the winter tires on the car are necessary for you to safely get there and back again,” senior communications consultant Nils Sødal at the NAF stated.

For those who are not going to the mountains or plan to be at home during the holidays, it is not necessary to change to winter tires yet.

“Winter tires are far worse than summer tires on wet roads when temperatures are above zero. So keep the summer tires on for a while longer if you are not going to the mountains,” Sødal said.
