Nav in Stavanger assessed cuts in support for poor children, it appears in an internal memo. The memo has been used at several Nav offices in the municipality.

The memorandum states that no more grants will be awarded for birthday gifts, May 17th clothes, day care, bicycles or PC purchases, writes Stavanger Aftenblad.

It is the municipal committee chair Eirik Faret Sakariassen (SV – Socialistic Left) presenting the note, which has been used at several Nav offices in Stavanger. He has responded to the content.

“Yes, when he sits on the knowledge he does, then I understand. I did not know this, so I can only praise a watchful press and alert politicians that we are made aware of the matter. Here are some who have been a little too eager,” says Eli Karin Fosse, Director of Health and Welfare in Stavanger Municipality.

“When it comes to a situation where you are discussing cuts, the use of such a list is not at all in line with the councilor’s intention. We will contact the Nav offices every Monday to ensure that this ceases,” Fosse says.
