Many Norwegians don’t know how to use maps and compasses. There are also significant differences between genders.

In a survey conducted by Ipsos, 46% of Norwegians stated that they can’t use maps and compasses – or that they can use them to a small extent, the Norwegian Association for Outdoor Organisations (Norsk Friluftsliv) noted in a press release.

“It is a pity that so many are unsure of how to orient themselves in nature without Google Maps and GPS.

“You are not guaranteed network coverage or electricity when you travel in forests and fields,” acting general secretary Siri Meland at Norsk Friluftsliv pointed out.

The differences between the sexes are also significant.

While 36% of men stated that they mostly know how to use maps and compasses, only 9% of the women did the same.
