Last year, 23,800 people were baptized in the Church of Norway, a decrease of 4,000 baptisms from the previous year.

In comparison, 43,000 people were baptized in 2005, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

The number of baptisms remained relatively stable until 2010. Since then, there has been an annual decline of between 500 and 2,300 baptisms up to last year.

When one counts the number of baptized people against the number of births, the proportion of baptized people was 45% last year. That is a decrease of 6% from 2019. The share was 76% in 2005.

Last year, 68% of the population was a member of the Church of Norway. The proportion was 85% in 2005, and since then, there has been a steady decline of around 1% a year.
