Almost every third person who lives together with someone in Norway is doing so as a cohabitant. The proportion of cohabitants is constantly increasing, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

Out of the 65% of Norwegians who stated that they live together, 30% said that they live together as cohabitants. The rest are married.

The proportion of cohabitants has risen by around 10% in recent decades and has never been higher.

The proportion of married people has been steadily declining in the same period, Statistics Norway reports.

Out of the entire population between the ages of 16 and 79, the proportion of cohabitants is approximately 19%.

The proportion of cohabitants is greatest in the age groups 25–29 years and 30–34 years with 38% and 37%, respectively. The proportion decreases as age increases and is the lowest in the oldest age groups.
