The proposal to increase the maximum allowable speed for wheelchairs to 15 kilometers per hour is now sent out for consultation.
“The government will make everyday life easier for people. The fact that wheelchair users now receive such a speed increase is the desire of the users and will give them increased quality of life. At the same time, we must make sure that it does not go beyond the traffic safety of pedestrians and other road users,” says Minister of Transport Jon Georg Dale (FRP).
On behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Public Roads Administration sends the proposal out for consultation.
Today, wheelchair users can drive to speeds up to 10 kilometers per hour. With better wheelchairs, they are also used elsewhere in traffic and roads other than just on pavements. Therefore, the government now wants to facilitate a speed increase.
