On Friday, Aker Energy employees were informed that the company’s project in Ghana has been postponed due to the Coronavirus crisis. Around 150 lose their jobs, Budstikka reports.
In total, there are 140 employees in the company between Norway and Ghana. In addition, there are around 40 consultants associated with the project, but 30 of these are allowed to continue, confirms press contact Håkon Høgetveit from Aker Energy to the newspaper.
– “These are tough times, and this is obviously not a desired outcome. But that was the only right thing to preserve the values that exist,” he says.
Aker Energy was founded in 2018 to launch a development project that should have started in Ghana in 2020. The project has now been postponed for the time being.
