26 million to make express ferries climate friendly

Rogaland County Municipality receives support to build what may be the world’s first express ferry with batteries.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment awards a total of NOK 26 million for measures to make express ferries climate-friendly.

Rogaland are receiving the most, by getting NOK 12 million to rebuild the express ferry that is operating Haugesund – Røvær for battery operation. This could be the world’s first express ferry powered by batteries, according to the ministry.

Otherwise, Trøndelag gets NOK 2.1 million, Sogn og Fjordane 5.2 million, Møre og Romsdal 2.2 million, Finnmark 1 million, Oslo gets 2.1 million and Hordaland gets 600,000.
