The Norwegian Crystals plant in Glomfjord in Nordland has laid off 80 employees and will temporarily close production from the 10th of September.
Norwegian Crystals produces ingots – cylinders and wafer cylinders for solar cell manufacturers.
Lower prices for wafers on the market are the cause of the production stall, writes Avisa Nordland.
The company has 105 employees. The 25 who are left will make adjustments and prepare a reboot of the factory again should prices increase again.
“We are convinced that this is the best measure of competitiveness, and that we take care of employees, customers, shareholders and the local community,” the company says in a stock exchange announcement.
