Travel restrictions have resulted in a near-complete halt to cross-border shopping. Norwegians spent only 28 million NOK cross-border shopping in the second quarter this year according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

During the same period last year, cross-border shopping was measured to 4.1 billion NOK.

“Cross-border shopping in the 2020 second quarter has been affected by the restrictions implemented in March, particularly in relation to Sweden.

Many countries and regions in the North were excepted from the restrictions starting June 15. However, the popular cross-border shopping destinations in Sweden remained red on the inflection-map throughout the entire second quarter” informs Boyd Oyier of Statistics Norway.
