A total of 930,000 passengers flew with Norwegian in December, a sharp increase from the previous year. However, the pandemic still affects the airline’s operations.

In total, Norwegian reports that 931,917 passengers traveled with the airline in the last month of 2021. The corresponding figure for the same month in 2020 was 129,664 passengers. Measured against November 2021, that is still a decrease of 70,000 passengers.

The aircraft’s filling rate was 71.3%, which CEO Geir Karlsen describes as good when one looks at the infection situation and the authorities’ restrictions.

“We also had to plan this Christmas and New Year weekend based on lower demand, and the filling level is good for December as well. At the same time, we naturally notice the effect of the omicron virus and new measures and restrictions at home and abroad,” Karlsen added.

Norwegian’s business activities are on the rise now, after the company almost went bankrupt last spring. In December, Norwegian had an average of 48 aircraft in operation.

In December 2019, i.e., before the pandemic and before the airline had to undergo extensive restructuring, 2.25 million passengers traveled with Norwegian.
