The total turnover from advertising has gone down so far this year. Net advertising revenue is still the largest and is steadily growing, according to Mediebarometeret (Media Barometer).

During the first eight months of the year, advertising totaled NOK 6.09 billion through media agencies – compared with NOK 6.47 billion at the same time last year. This is a decrease of 5.9 %.

At the end of July this year, the total decline was 6.9 %. But a much better August has dampened the decline somewhat.

“We’ve seen a slight increase in the month of August compared to the corresponding month last year. Then we hope that this is just the start of a boost for the autumn of 2019. It remains to be seen – and it’s OK to hope,” says general manager Merete Mandt Larsen of Mediebyråforeningen (Media Agency Association).

Advertising revenue grew both online and on TV last month, by 12.2 and 2.4 % respectively.

While TV accounts for the biggest decline so far this year (8.1 %), net advertising revenue is down only 1.4 % compared to the same time last year.

“In this way, the internet has good opportunities to get on the positive side – and it does. It needs to be a very good autumn for TV to do the same,” says Larsen.
