700 hired workers from abroad have been sent home from Aker Solutions shipyard to prevent the spread of infection at their barracks. Kvaerner has sent home 1,200.
“It’s not justifiable to house many hundreds of people in home quarantine in barracks over a long period of time, and we therefore believe that it is better for all parties to travel home instead,” says press contact Cathrine Gjertsen in Aker Solutions to Stavanger Aftenblad.
The workers are from countries outside the Nordic region and work for staffing agencies at the yards in Egersund and Sandnessjøen. The agencies have been told to initiate the return trips. Gjertsen says that everyone who travels is healthy.
“If someone has symptoms, they will be followed up according to current guidelines,” she says.
According to Sunnhordland and Sysla, Kvaerner’s 1,200 workers are leaving the country with chartered aircraft on Friday.
In total, there are 1100 workers from Kvaerner Stord and 120 workers from Kvaerner Verdal.
