Over the next two months, 26,400 people will lose their unemployment benefits when the unemployment benefit scheme for the corona pandemic expires.

Coronavirus unemployment benefits have been extended in several rounds, but now the extensions are ending.

From April 1, around 20,000 jobseekers will lose their unemployment benefits, while during April and May, the same will happen with another 6,000 people, the NAV stated.

As corona restrictions have ceased, many laid-off people have returned to work – either in full or partly.

Of the 26,400 people who will lose their unemployment benefits, 10,600 have been laid off, while 15,800 haven’t.

That means that six out of ten people who now lose their unemployment benefits are ordinary jobseekers. Most of them don’t have an employer or a connection to working life, head of statistics at the NAV Ulf Andersen stated.
