Bag in box wine sales increased by 44.9% during the coronavirus crisis, from mid-March to the end of May.

On the other hand, bottled wine sales increased by 12.9%, according to June figures from Arcus, Norway’s largest wholesaler of wine and liquor, as newspaper Dagens Næringsliv reports.

Arcus employees had to work extra shifts and weekends to keep up with the growing demand in Norway during the first wave of the coronavirus in the country.

The trend indicates that Norwegians have changed their drinking habits during the period of closed restaurants and closed Swedish borders.

Bag in box wine accounted for nearly 60% of Vinmonopolet’s sales volume.
