The Ministry of Defense  is asking the Ministry of Finance that the NATO headquarters in Rogaland be exempt from air passenger tax, because of an international agreement between Norway and NATO.

– The Paris Protocol and the supplementary agreement between Norway and NATO are intended to facilitate defense cooperation and allied activities.

The Paris Protocol allows various exemptions from taxes and customs duties as far as practical – to facilitate allied activity, says special advisor Birgitte Frisch in the Defense Ministry to the newspaper Dagsavisen.

According to the Defense Ministry , the activities at NATO headquarters at Jatta in Rogaland (JWC) falls  under this category.

Finance Ministry has sent the Defense Ministry request on to the Tax Directorate.

– The Ministry will consider the issue further as soon as we receive the Directorate’s evaluation , said senior adviser Dorte Drange at the Ministry of Finance’s communication office.
