Dramatic Cuts in NOV

520 of the 2,400 permanent employees employed by drilling giant National Oilwell Varco (NOV) have been fired.

The layoffs are likely to affect the head office in Kristiansand the most.

Before the downsizing, there were around 1,560 employees in Kristiansand, around 620 employees in Stavanger, 180 employees in Molde, and 140 in Oslo. All four offices will be affected.

“It is too early to detail how large the cuts will be at the different offices, but the downsizing will affect all of them.” Says communications director Dag Nordbø from NOV to the newspaper Sysla.

A year ago, NOV had almost 5,000 employees and contractors in Norway. After the recent cuts, there will be about 1,900 once again.
