The electrical chain Elkjøp wants to prevent electronic waste from being stolen. They are now introducing 24-hour continuous surveillance of the return areas.

“For many years we have been trying to find solutions to prevent gangs of thieves that steal electrical waste, but must note that the measures have not had the desired effect. Now we are going to work more drastically,” says Elkjøp chief Fredrik Tønnesen in a press release.

Now, the return areas will be monitored around the clock using video and sensor technology. The measure will prevent old washing machines, ovens and the like from being stolen before being delivered to the recycling facility.
