Employers in construction are most positive about new hires. Industry and hotels and tourism are most pessimistic.
This is shown by ManpowerGroup’s quarterly labor market “barometer”. In four out of seven industries, there is greater optimism than in the previous quarter.
The barometer is now at zero. This means that there are as many employers who say they want to downsize as there are employers who don’t want to downsize. In the previous quarter, the index was minus 7 percent.
In construction, 19 per cent more people want to hire than reduce. Finance and business services take second place with plus 10 percent.
In industry, the index is minus 12 percent. Hotels and tourism take the second last place on the list with minus 10 percent. Geographically, the improvement is greatest in northern Norway, while southwestern Norway has the weakest staffing prospects.
