Agricultural food production is currently running as normal despite the corona outbreak.

On Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture and Food Olaug Bollestad (Kristelig Folkeparti) held talks with key players in agriculture, as well as the Food Safety Authority, the Veterinary Institute and the Directorate of Agriculture.

“I got a good briefing on status and at the same time assurances that as of now, all food production is continuing as normal. There is full readiness in the value chain and everyone is following up on the advice and orders given by the health authorities,” says Minister of Agriculture and Food Olaug Bollestad.

Many businesses rely on seasonal workers from abroad – especially the fruit and vegetable sector. There have been a number of worrying messages about how to handle production throughout the year should these fail to occur.

“This is a situation we take most seriously,” says Bollestad.

The food sector also addressed the problem that some municipalities have introduced their own rules for the transport of persons and goods across the municipal boundary.
