IKEA to open small shop in downtown Oslo

Shortly after the closure of three service centers, IKEA will open a new store in downtown Oslo. According to the home-interior chain, the store is intended for planning and ordering.“This spring we are opening what we call a planning and ordering shop near Karl Johan,” says Clare Rodgers, head of IKEA Retail in Norway, to E24.

The store will be around 600 square metres, far smaller than the chain’s department stores. Scheduled opening is around February.

In the new stores there will be no goods, but customers will be able to order kitchens and bedrooms, and interior help will also be offered, where goods are ordered online before being sent home to people.

Small shops carry less risk without goods, and it also takes less time to establish them. Rodgers says that in the long term, there may be stores in more places than Oslo.
