After a dry summer in 2018, 2019 fared much better for the berry, fruit and vegetable producers. The strawberry crop alone increased by 15 per cent.
Strawberries accounted for 74 percent of berry production in the country in 2019, yielding a crop of just over 9,100 tons last year, according to agriculture statistics from Statistics Norway (SSB).
Raspberry production went down by 7 per cent, while cherries dropped by as much as 34 per cent last year, as the summer drought of 2018 suited cherries perfectly. Apple and plum production also increased.
The total berry production increased by 9 per cent, while the fruit crops increased by 5 per cent in total.
Total production of vegetables in 2019 increased by 7 per cent compared to the previous year.
