The price level in the 19 euro countries increased by 5.9% in February, slightly more than the initial estimates expected.

The final inflation level was confirmed in the revised figures from the EU statistical agency Eurostat.

While the early calculations showed inflation of 5.8%, this figure has been adjusted upwards to a record high of 5.9%.

Core inflation – which excludes energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco – rose to 2.7%, from 2.3% in January.

Energy prices have risen significantly more and are 32% higher than a year ago. Food, alcohol, and tobacco cost 4.2% more in February this year than in the same month last year.

Other goods and services became 3.1 and 2.5% more expensive, respectively.
