Due to the coronavirus, several insurance companies in Norway have chosen to cover all cancellations on travel.

Following the government’s advice to Norwegians not to go on leisure trips, Gjensidige Forsikring, European Travel Insurance and Tryg Forsikring have chosen to cover all cancellations.

This applies to all flights from now till the 26th of March. For travel after this date, the companies are awaiting updated advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

– “We are in the midst of a national and international crisis, and we also have a responsibility to make sure that everyone gets out of this in the best possible way,” says communications adviser Andreas Bibow Handeland of European Travel Insurance.

He explains that they have received a record number of inquiries in recent days, with about four times as many as normal.

Those who cancel must first contact travel companies, airlines and hotels to find out what is refundable, then the insurance companies will cover the rest.
