Interest rates in Norway increased in November

The interest rate on new mortgages for households increased by an average of 0.05% to 1.91% in November – the highest level since April 2020, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

For new mortgages in total with floating interest rates, the increase amounted to 0.06% (1.90%). The fixed interest rate increased by 0.12% to 2.66%.

“For new mortgages, the fixed interest rate is very low and can vary somewhat from month to month,” the SSB wrote on Tuesday.

For outstanding mortgages in total, the interest rate increased by 0.17% to 1.98%. The floating interest rate increased by 0.19% to 1.95%, while the fixed interest rate was unchanged at 2.55%.

The interest rate on deposits from households increased by an average of 0.03% to 0.33% after being at a record low level since June. It is the first time it has increased since January 2020.
