Lowest unemployment since the financial crisis

There has been a slight increase in the number of unemployed in December, but the annual unemployment rate has been relatively stable.

“Despite a slight increase in fully unemployed in December, unemployment is still at a low level,” Nav Director Sigrun Vågeng writes in a press release.

The share of unemployed persons was 2.3 percent in December. Unemployed and job seekers on measures are 2.7 percent in December.

– ‘We must return to 2008 to find as low unemployment as we have had in 2019,’ writes Labor and Social Affairs Minister Anniken Hauglie (H) in an email to NTB.

The last time there was lower unemployment was in 2008. At that time unemployment was 1.7 percent.

The highest unemployment rate in the country is in Østfold, with 3.1 percent unemployment. The lowest unemployment rate is in Sogn og Fjordane, there it’s 1.4 percent of the workforce without a job.

The unemployment rate is highest among those between the ages of 20 and 24, with 2.9 percent unemployment. It is the lowest for those under 20, with 1.4 percent unemployment, figures show.

There is the highest unemployment rate among construction workers (3.3 percent), and the lowest among teaching staff and academic professions with 0.7 and 0.8 percent unemployment respectively.
