100 employees in Maersk Drilling Norway were notified on Friday that they will lose their jobs. The rig company is severely affected by the fall in oil prices.
On Thursday, employees at the company were notified that there will be layoffs due to less activity and investments as a result of the fall in oil prices, reports Stavanger Aftenblad / E24.
Among other things, the contract for the rig Maersk Reacher, which has been a hotel for Aker BP at Vallhall, has been terminated.
On Friday, employees will be contacted for dismissal meetings. In the downsizing process, the principle of seniority will be followed, says Frode Larsen, who is a leader at the Industrial Energy Society Mærsk Employee Union.
Originally, more people were told they would lose their jobs, but the union and the company have agreed that about 50 people should be temporarily rather than permanently laid off, according to the newspaper.
