The number of employees with doctor certified sickness absence in per cent of all employees (sickness absence proportion) or was 6.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2016.
This is a decrease of 2.3 per cent compared with updated figures of 2015, where the proportion was 6.3 per cent.
The proportion for women has decreased from 8.4 to 8.1 per cent. For men, the proportion has remained nearly unchanged. This shows a percentage decrease of 2.8 and 1.7 per cent respectively.
A new data source from 2015 does not yet make it possible to publish the most used figure for sickness absence, i.e. the sickness absence rate. Instead, we focus on the number of employees with sickness absence as a percentage of all employees.
Fall in sickness absence proportion in the major industries
Among the major industries, the aaccommodation and food service industry and the administrative and support service industry were the industries with the biggest decreases, with 7.7 and 6.6 per cent respectively.
Mining and quarrying, dominated by the oil and gas industry, had an increase of 5.2 per cent last year. In this industry, the number of persons with doctor-certified absence absence has decreased, but the the number of persons working in the industry has decreased even more, and hence the proportion has increased. The proportion was 3.8 per cent, which is still a bit lower than the average of the country.
