More Norwegians want more oil and gas exploration

Norway should continue to drill for oil and gas. This is what 49 percent of the Norwegians said in a survey by Sentio Research commissioned for Klassekampen. The younger generation is also the most positive about Norway continuing as an oil nation, added the survey.

Only 27.7 per cent of the respondents wanted to end oil exploration. The proportion of those for more oil and gas extraction is high in all four age groups in the survey. It is still highest among people between the ages of 18 and 22. 58 percent of respondents in this age group believe that Norway should open new areas for oil and gas operations.

Those who live in the counties of Finnmark, Sogn and Fjordane and Hedmark are most positive in opening new areas for oil and gas operations. All three counties have a majority of over 60 percent.

Trøndelag is the only county in the country where more people were against further oil exploration.

While the survey showed a greater proportion wanted further oil exploration and recovery compared to previous results, more were also uncertain about the issue. In a similar survey last year, 7 percent were unsure while this year 23 percent said they were unsure of whether they still want exploration and recovery.

This year’s survey was conducted from December 13 and 19 with 1,004 respondents.
