More than 110,000 new electric cars were sold in 2021, and eight out of ten private individuals who bought a new car this year bought a car with an electric motor.

“It shows how close we are to the goal of having 100% of new cars sold being electric cars by 2025,” Secretary-General Christina Bu of the Norwegian Electric Car Association told the newspaper E24.

The figures have been taken from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV) statistics published on December 19. The proportion of electric cars sold has jumped from 54% in 2020 to 65% this year.

The Electric Car Association believes that a new record will be set next year with an increase of as much as 15%, to over 80% of total new sales.

However, the lack of chips and chargers may be a challenge next year, the association believes.
