Due to a price spike in several grocery chains in Norway, an NHH professor is warning people against making large purchases in the next couple of weeks.

“It is not wise to make large purchases now. Wait a few weeks,” economics professor Øystein Foros told the newspaper Nettavisen.

The online newspaper reports that the prices of several products at the discount chains Extra, Kiwi, and Rema 1000 have become more expensive at the end of January and the beginning of February.

For example, broccoli, turkey ham, and Grandiosa pizza have become 70% more expensive.

“In Norwegian grocery stores, we are now in the most expensive weeks of the year… Use what you have in the freezer,” Foros recommended.

The professor believes the price level will normalize in March.
