The number of job seekers in Norway increased by 900 since December 21, preliminary figures from the NAV show. A total of 124,500 people are currently fully or partially unemployed in Norway.

“Unemployment rose before Christmas in connection with many companies in the accommodation and serving industries announcing layoffs of employees, but after the framework of the wage support scheme was announced before Christmas, the growth in unemployment has slowed down,” NAV chief Hans Christian Holte stated in a press release.

Unemployment in Norway amounts to 4.4% of the labor force, and the figures have not been adjusted for seasonal variations.

The NAV also notes that several large employers plan to withdraw the redundancy notices when the wage support scheme is expanded.

A total of 74,000 people are registered as completely unemployed, while 36,200 are registered as partially unemployed.
