A new subsidy scheme will help strengthen diversity work in working life, the Norwegian government states.

The subsidy will stimulate employers to have a greater awareness of ethnic diversity as a resource, to increase the recruitment of immigrants, and to better use immigrants’ skills in working life, the government said on Thursday.

“Working life benefits from diversity. Immigrants in Norway represent an important resource for Norwegian working life, which we will miss out on if they do not get a job and use their skills,” Minister of Education and Integration Guri Melby (V) said.

“We know that there are many companies that want to strengthen their diversity work. We are facilitating this with a completely new subsidy scheme,” she added.

Melby says the benefits of increased diversity depend on working life seeing the potential, and facilitating that immigrants also get to use their skills and labor.

“Norway still has potential for improvement here,” the Minister noted.
